A Musician's New Year's Resolution 2020

In the spirit of full transparency, I've decided to share my 20 ideas for this years musicians resolution:

  1. . Find ways to mentor new artists

  2. Support young and aspiring artists

  3. Let go of fear (it's only keeping you from being great)

  4. Say no without feeling the need to give an explanation (separate blog coming soon)

  5. Do things that make you happy

  6. Learn new songs even if you never plan to teach/perform (in multiple keys)

  7. Attend music conferences and workshops

  8. Give frequently (time and talents)

  9. Attend concerts just for fun (without performance obligations)

  10. Read often (yes, the bible, but also novels, etc)

  11. Spend time with family/friends

  12. Invest in you (yes, if you work hard, why not?)

  13. Take frequent breaks from social media

  14. Don't allow imposture syndrome to keep you from enjoying your success

  15. Pray without ceasing

  16. Increase your practice time (practice makes permanent)

  17. Brand yourself (tell your story, someone is waiting to hear it)

  18. Learn from your failures (failure is feedback)

  19. Have a growth mindset (you can always improve)

  20. Take care of yourself (mental and physical health is important)
